Bedroom, Outdoor & Art Lighting Tips

At Martin Sunday Lighting Design, our ultimate goal is to light up the lives’ of others. We do this through our design work, sharing our weekly Personal Development Discussions via our blog and by sending out a Lighting Tip of the Month via our email newsletter. (Sign up here to receive our email newsletter). We’ve decided to extend our Lighting Tip of the Month by providing everyone (including you!) access to these helpful tips by creating a quarterly blog post that reveals them all.

Below are the lighting tips that we dished out during the months of April, May and June. Take a moment to read them over and see how they can enhance your life and current living environment!

Bedroom Lighting

When looking to provide the best background lighting in your bedroom, choose to incorporate localized lamps. In most bedrooms, having one lamp either side of the bed adds the perfect amount of lighting. Incorporating more than this into your bedroom’s design will cause it to resemble a light shop!

Outdoor Lighting

Porch Lighting: Placing a lantern on either side of the front door of your home creates a warming and welcoming effect. If you have a porch, you can go a step further by adding a hanging lantern instead. Whichever route you choose to go, incorporating these lighting elements are best featured when dimmed. Combine these elements with additional dimmed architectural lighting to allow light to skim over steps, making them visible without being overwhelming.

Pool Lighting: When choosing the lighting underneath the water within your pool, consider using a colored light for a fun effect! You can even go a step further by using a color-changing LED light to bring extra fun to your late night parties by the pool.

Art Lighting

You don’t have to go all-out to create beauty within your home. Hanging a painting and adding a simple table underneath with a vase of flowers can go a long way, however make sure you properly light your art at night. The simplest way to achieve this is to spotlight the piece with a directional downlight. This will work for highlighting both pictures or sculptures. By paying attention to the lighting design, you can ensure that the true colors of the art is shown which then enhances the look of your home.
